Mr. Hodge was a native of Elizabethton and a son of the late George Hodge Sr. and Lutie Hodge. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Frank Hodge and George Hodge Jr., and a sister, Dorothy Hilton. Mr. Hodge was a former employee of North American Rayon Corporation where he served as a supervisor in the Spinning Department. He also was a former employee of Great Lakes Research Corporation and retired from the Elizabethton City School System, having served as a custodian at Elizabethton High School. He served for a brief time with the Elizabethton Police Department and served as a volunteer with the Elizabethton Fire Department. He was the last surviving charter member of Roan Street Free Will Baptist Church, where he had formerly served as treasurer and as a trustee. He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served in the Seabees in the Aleutians and the Pacific. He loved bowling and attending Elizabethton Twins baseball games. Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Margaret Brewer Hodge; three daughters, Glenda Fritts, Diane Timbs and husband Gary and Carol Pierce and husband Robert, all of Elizabethton; six grandchildren, Brian Fritts and wife Shona of Hampton, Michael Fritts and wife Heather, Melanie Moore and husband Dan, Karen Deloach and husband Brandon, Rachel Dunlap and husband Eric and Amy Pierce, all of Elizabethton; two great-grandchildren, Dylan Fritts and Isaac Moore; a step-great-granddaughter, Shelbie Morgan; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Mr. Hodge will be conducted at 8 p.m. Thursday, May 25, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with Rev. Arthur Renfro and Rev. Howard Messer officiating. Graveside services and interment will be at 10 a.m. Friday, May 26, at Happy Valley Memorial Park with Rev. D.C. Bryd officiating. Music will be provided by Bobby Wood Jr. Oma Jean Woods and Penny Roberson. Active pallbearers will be Brian Fritts, Michael Fritts, Kevin Fritts, Dan Moore, Brandon Deloach, Eric Dunlap, Steve Woods and John Rouse. Honorary pallbearers will be his church family, friends and neighbors. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, prior to the service hour. Friends may also call at the residence at anytime. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral chapel at 9:30 a.m. Friday to go to the cemetery.
