Bertha G. Holder 





    Bertha G. Holder, 83, formerly of 611 Holder Avenue, Elizabethton, went to 

be with her Lord, Wednesday, October 24, 2007, from Ivy Hall Nursing Home. 





    A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late C.H. and Nancy 

Peters Grindstaff. 





    Mrs. Holder was a member of East Side Free Will Baptist Church and was a 

homemaker. 





    In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, 

Selmer D. Holder; an infant son, Jimmy David Holder; four sisters, Helen 

Taylor, Ethel Hardin, Amanda Markland and Rita Pearl Patterson; and a brother, 

Authur O. Grindstaff. 





    Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Johnny L. and Sandra 

Holder and Grady C. and Alecia Holder, all of Elizabethton; a daughter and son-

in-law, Linda F. and Bill Bowling of Elizabethton; and seven grandchildren. 

Several nieces and nephews also survive. 





    The funeral service for Mrs. Holder will be conducted at 8 p.m. Friday, 

October 26, in the Chapel of Peace of Tetrick Funeral Home with Rev. Howard 

Messer officiating. Music will be under the direction of Alecia Holder. The 

family will receive friends in the funeral chapel from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, 

prior to the service. Friends may also call at the residence of her son, 

Johnny Holder, 608 Holder Avenue, Elizabethton, at anytime. The graveside 

service and interment will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, October 27, at Happy Valley 

Memorial Park. Everyone is welcome to meet the family at the funeral home at 

9:15 a.m. Saturday to go in procession to the cemetery. Active pallbearers 

will be Ralph Patterson, Ronnie Patterson, Chris Holder, David Holder, John F. 

Holder and Melvin Simmons. Honorary pallbearers will be J.N. Markland, Joyce 

Julian, Rev. Elmer Carter, Rev. Richard Adams, the staff of Ivy Hall Nursing 

Home, the staff of Adventa Hospice and the members of East Side Free Will 

Baptist Church. Those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers may make 

donations to the American Cancer Society, 415 Washington Avenue, Elizabethton, 

TN 37643. Condolences may be sent to the family by signing the guestbook at
