Holtsclaw Kathryn R. Holtsclaw, 90, formerly of the Tiger Creek Community, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Monday, August 6, 2007, from Pine Ridge Care Center, Elizabethton, following an extended illness. A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late Andy and Jenny Peters Arnett. Mrs. Holtsclaw was a member of Hopson Chapel Freewill Baptist Church where she was a member of the Willing Workers. She was retired from Banner Elk Glove Company. Mrs. Holtsclaw enjoyed gardening and canning her produce, quilting and sewing, and growing flowers. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dave D. Holtsclaw, in 1983; a daughter, Ivalee Holtsclaw; a son-in-law, Bobby Breedlove; three brothers and a sister. Survivors include four daughters and two sons-in-law, "Jo" Breedlove of Mount Morris, Mich., Charlene and William Drown of Grand Blanc, Mich., Darlene and Jim Mynatt of Waxhaw, N.C., and Gail Carroll of Roan Mountain; three sons and daughters-in-law, Tim and Rita Holtsclaw of Hampton, Ronnie and Judy Holtsclaw and Kenneth and Vivian Holtsclaw, all of Roan Mountain; a sister, Edith Simerly of Hampton; 13 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Beulah Holtsclaw. Several nieces and nephews also survive. The Celebration of Life Service for Mrs. Holtsclaw will be conducted at 8 p.m. Wednesday, August 8, in the Riverside Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home with Rev. Jamie Hill and Rev. Cecil Largent officiating. The family will receive friends in the funeral chapel from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, prior to the service. Friends may also call at the home of her son, Ronnie Holtsclaw, 135 Paul Blevins Road, Roan Mountain, or at the residences of any of her children at other times. The graveside service and interment will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, August 9, at Blevins Cemetery, Tiger Creek Community. Those attending are welcome to meet the family at the funeral home at 10 a.m. Thursday to go in procession to the cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Jimmy Mynatt, Jim Mynatt, Daniel Carroll, Bill Drown, Bradley Carroll, Chris Holtsclaw, Bradley Guy, Ed Drown, Justin Breedlove and Brian Breedlove. Honorary pallbearers will be Ray Vance, Matthew Guy, Robert Chambers, Eddie Julian, Bill Street, Earl Chambers, Raymond Montgomery and her friends and neighbors. Those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers may make donations to the Pine Ridge Care Center Activity Fund, 1200 Spruce Lane, Elizabethton, TN 37643. Special thanks is extended from the family to the staff of Pine Ridge Care Center for their love and care shown to Mrs. Holtsclaw during her illness.
