Thomas R. Hoss 





    Thomas R. "Tom" Hoss, 82, 957 Blue Springs Road, Elizabethton, passed away 

on Sunday, July 22, 2007, at Sycamore Shoals Hospital following a brief 

illness. 





    A native of Carter County, he was the son of the late Thomas Waylon and 

Hettie Sims Hoss. 





    Mr. Hoss was retired from North American Rayon Corporation. He loved to 

hunt, fish and garden. 





    In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Judy 

Smith, and three sisters. 





    Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Manda Jane Oliver Hoss, of the 

home; a daughter, Carolyn Costello of Elizabethton; two grandsons, Kevin 

Layman of Elizabethton and Jeff Smith of Piney Flats; a granddaughter, Lisa 

Waycaster of Elizabethton; and two sisters and a brother-in-law, June and 

Clifford Street and Sue Lyons, all of Johnson City. Several nieces and nephews 

also survive. 





    The memorial service for Mr. Hoss will be conducted at 7 p.m. Tuesday, 

July 24, in the Chapel of Peace of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with 

Rev. Bill Watson officiating. The family will receive friends in the funeral 

home chapel from 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, prior to the service, or at other times 

at the residence, 957 Blue Springs Road, Elizabethton. Private disposition 

will be held at a later date. The family would like to extend a special thanks 

to his friends and neighbors, the doctors and nursing staff of Sycamore Shoals 

Hospital and his nieces and nephews for all the love and care shown to Mr.
