Mary L. Hoss 


    Mary Lou Hoss, 92, formerly of 579 Teaberry Road, Roan Mountain, died 
Monday, April 21, 2008, at Roan Highlands Nursing Center following an extended 
illness. 


    She was born in the Shell Creek Community of Carter County to the late 
Edward and Belva Miller Shell. 


    Mrs. Hoss was a member of Upper Shell Creek Christian Church and a former 
employee of Bemberg Corporation. 


    In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, 
William L. Hoss, in 1964, and several brothers and sisters. 


    Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Gail and David Roark, 
Lincolnton, N.C.; a son and daughter-in-law, Terry L. and Akiyo Hoss, Roan 
Mountain; three grandchildren, Amy Herndon and husband Brent, Winston-Salem, 
N.C., Lewis Hoss, Dallas, Texas, and Kimberly Kisner and husband James, 
Albuquerque, N.M.; two great-grandchildren, Will Herndon and Cailyn Herndon, 
both of Winston-Salem, N.C.; two sisters, Ruby Shell, Roan Mountain, and 
Melissa Hopson, Elizabethton; and a brother, Odell Shell, Roan Mountain. 
Several nieces and nephews also survive. 


    The funeral service for Mrs. Hoss will be conducted at 7 p.m. Wednesday, 
April 23, in the Rhododendron Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home, Roan Mountain, 
with Pastor Delaney Berry officiating. Music will be under the direction of 
the Melody Trio. The family will receive friends in the funeral chapel from 5 
until 7 p.m. Wednesday, prior to the service. Friends may also call at the 
residence of her son, Terry, 583 Teaberry Road, Roan Mountain, at other times. 
The graveside service and interment will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 24, in 
the Perry Cemetery. Everyone is welcome to meet the family at 9:45 a.m. at the 
cemetery for the service. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and 
friends. Those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers may make donations to 
Adventa Hospice, 684 Hwy. 91, Elizabethton, TN 37643 or to Roan Highlands 
Nursing Center, 146 Buck Creek Road, Roan Mountain, TN 37687. The family 
wishes to extend a special "thank you" to the staff and nurses of Roan 
Highlands Nursing Center for the special care given to Mrs. Hoss during her
