Hyder Mrs. Maude Henry Hyder, 91, 2525 Beechwood Drive, Elizabethton, passed away Sunday, December 9, 2007, at Appalachian Christian Village. A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late John H. and Sallie Treadway Henry. Mrs. Hyder was a 1935 graduate of Washington College Academy. She was a homemaker and had been a member of Doe River Baptist Church for 63 years, where she served many years as a Sunday School Teacher, Choir Member and Director of the Women's Missionary Union. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel L. Hyder, January 6, 1971, a sister, Phyllis Jean Luster, and three brother, Saunders Henry, Kitz Henry and John Henry. Survivors include two daughters, Sally Hyder and Karen Hyder and her husband, Dale Schmitt, all of Johnson City; three sons and daughters-in-law, Kent and Cecile Hyder, Elizabethton, Jack and Laura Hyder, Rogersville, Tenn., and Dan and Debbie Hyder, Kingston, Tenn; two grandchildren, Bram Hyder and Kerry Hyder, both of Kingston, Tenn.; two sisters, Evelyn Edwards, Telford, and Iona Aiken, Chesapeake, Va.; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Charles and Tina Henry and Ray and Norma Henry, all of Cayce, S.C.; her sisters-in-law, Evelyn Henry, Jonesborough, Ruth Henry, Johnson City, and Myrtle Henry, Elizabethton; and a brother-in-law, Jack Luster, Telford. Several nieces and nephews also survive. A service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Hyder was conducted at 8 p.m. Tuesday, December 11, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with Pastor James Hawk and Pastor Jim Lindsay officiating. Music was provided by Rev. Jim and Mary Lindsay. Graveside services and interment were conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, December 12, at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers, who were requested to assemble at the funeral home at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, were Luther McKeehan, Mike Moody, Rocky Shew, Bram Hyder, John Moore and Andrew McKeehan. Honorary pallbearers were Glen Hyder, Sam Dunn, Fletcher Hyder, Jim Aiken, David Henry, Jim Price, Doug Henry, Christopher Schmitt and her church family. The family would like to express a special "Thank You" to the caregivers on the 5200 Wing of Johnson City Medical Center, Appalachian Christian Village and Smoky Mountain Hospice. To those who prefer, memorials may be made in memory of Mrs. Hyder to the Building Fund, Doe River Baptist Church, 113 Avon Street, Elizabethton, TN 37643.
