CARTER COUNTY, TN - OBITUARIES - Luther Lacy Hale, 6 Jun 2004 --------------¤¤¤¤¤¤-------------- Mr. Luther Lacy Hale, 86, of West D St., Elizabethton, passed away Sunday, June 6, 2004 at the James H. Quillen V.A. Medical Center Hospital, Mountain Home, following an extended illness. Mr. Hale was a native of Carter County and a son of the late Arthur Asa and Sally Lacy Hale. He was a retired salesman and parts manager for Carter County Motor Co. for 35 years and and also worked at Haynes Auto Parts. Mr. Hale was a U.S. Army/Air Corps Veteran during World War II. He was a Pilot and served as Master Sergeant with the 156th Liaision Squadron Commandos 10th Air Force in Burma, India. He received the Distinguished Flying Cross and Air Medal Victory Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, Bronze Service Star and Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster Distinguished Medal. Mr. Hale was a 1937 graduate of Elizabethton High School. He was King of Betsy and excelled in football. He was a devoted grandfather. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church. He was a member of Dashiell Masonic Lodge 238 F&AM, and a former member of the Elizabethton Jaycees. He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years of marriage, Margaret Hale, October 19, 2001; one son, Luther L. Hale, Jr.; five sisters, Elizabeth Smith, Virginia Smithdeal, Dorothy Blair, Frances Akers and Sarah Mae Hale. Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Richard and Brenda Hale, Elizabethton; Joseph Scott and Jill Susan Hale, Pensacola, Fla.; two brothers, Clarence "Bud" Hale, Kinston, N.C., and Sonny Hale, Elizabethton; one sister, Katheryn Crowe, Elizabethton; five grandchildren, and two spouces, Richard L. Hale, II and Juli Hale, Elizabethton; Elizabeth Anne (Betsy) Hale Walls and Wayne Walls, Gray; Kathryn Susan Hale, Jennifer Lynne Hale and Matthew Scott Hale, all of Pensacola, Fla.; two great- grandchildren, Matthew Wayne Walls, Gray, and Robert Luther Hale, Elizabethton. Several nieces and nephews also survive. A graveside service for Luther Lacy Hale will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 10, 2004 at Happy Valley Memorial Park with Rev. Buford Hankins officiating. A special thank you to the staff of Ivy Hall Nursing Home, Meals on Wheels and the Staff at the V.A. Medical Center, Ward C-1, Mountain Home; special friends, Mrs. Phyllis Walker, Mrs. Peggy Norris, Mr. Eddie Carver, Mr. Don Blackburn and Mr. Glenn Gouge. Everyone will meet at the cemetery at 10:55 a.m. Thursday for the graveside service. The family wil receive friends in the funeral home at any time, or at the residence of a son and daughter- in-law, Richard and Brenda Hale, 204 Constitution Ave., Elizabethton, at any time.
