CARTER COUNTY, TN - OBITUARIES - Catherine Potter Hardin, 11 Oct 2003 --------------¤¤¤¤¤¤-------------- Catherine P. Hardin Mrs. Catherine Potter Hardin, age 94, formerly of Sycamore Street, Elizabethton, died Saturday, October 11, 2003, at the Hermitage Health Center following an extended illness. She was preceded in death by her first husband, James Monroe "Poga" Potter and by her second husband, Dewey Hardin; by one son, James M. "Bud" Potter, Jr.; by two brothers and six sisters. Mrs. Hardin was a native of Carter County and a daughter of the late Charlie and Ellen Arnett Hopson. She retired from North American Rayon Corp. in 1974. Mrs. Hardin was a member of the First Christian Church, Elizabethtonand a member of the Dorcas Sunday School Class. Mrs. Hardin was an avid seamstress and was known for her Christian service to others. Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. E.Y. (Dot) Oaks, Mrs. Sid (Eula Mae) Hodge and Mrs. Willie (Leota) Holsclaw, all of Elizabethton; one brother, Raymond Hopson, of Wichita, Kan.; five sisters, Mrs. Pearl Markland and Mrs. Betty Jean Potter, both of Roan Mountain, Mrs. Gertrude Morrell, of Bluff City, Mrs. Martha Campbell and Mrs. Beulah Campbell, both of Roan Mountain; three step-children, Charlsie Jones, of Hampton, Va., Daryl Hardin, of Ohio and Ralph Hardin, of Florida; and one daughter-in-law, Martha Nelms Potter, of Kingsport. Six grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral service for Mrs. Catherine Potter Hardin will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, October 13, 2003, in the Sunset Chapel of Hathaway- Percy Funeral Home with Mr. Brent Nidiffer, Minister, officiating. Interment will follow the service in Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will grandsons and great-grandsons. For those who desire, memorials may be made to the J. M. "Bud" Potter, Jr. Scholarship Fund, 1561 Carolina Avenue, Kingsport, TN 37663 and the Activity Center at Hermitage Health Center, 1633 Hillview Drive, Elizabethton, TN 37643.
