CARTER COUNTY, TN - OBITUARIES - Sam M. Harrison, 18 Feb 2005 ----¤¤¤---- Sam M. Harrison, 71, East Cottage Avenue, Elizabethton, died Friday, February 18, 2005, at the James H. Quillen V.A. Medical Center Hospital, Mountain Home, following an extended illness. Mr. Harrison was a native of Watauga County, N.C., having lived in Elizabethton for the last six years. He was the son of the late Council Garfield and Margie Ward Harrison. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Nancy Davis Harrison, in 1997, a son, Michael G. Harrison, in 1979, and a grandson, Patrick Morgan. Mr. Harrison was a member of Valley Forge Christian Church. He retired in laundry service management and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served in the Korean conflict. Survivors include his wife, Kathleen Church Morris Harrison, of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Teresa and Phillip Morgan, Indianapolis, Ind., and Rose and Rev. Rick Penny, Croydon, N.H.; a son, Robert S. Harrison, Lafayette, Ind.; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Novella Davis, Rescue, Va., and Mary Davis, Battery Park, Va.; two brothers, Raymond Harrison, Newport News, Va., and Burnett Harrison, Fountain Inn, S.C. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Monday, February 21, in the Chapel of Peace of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Mr. Jason Birchfield, minister, and Rev. Rick Penny officiating. Music will be under the direction of Rev. Rick Penny. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Monday, prior to the service. Friends may also call at the residence, 314 East Cottage Avenue, Elizabethton, at anytime. Graveside service and interment will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, February 24, at Greenlawn Cemetery, Frankfort, Ind., with military honors by the V.F.W. Honor Guard, Frankfort, Ind. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Honorary pallbearers will be David Hampton, Glen Ray Simerly, Ray Arrwood, Bill Trivette and Ralph Hyder. Everyone planning to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the cemetery at 10:55 a.m. Thursday. Those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers may make donations to the Volunteer Services at the James H. Quillen V.A. Medical Center Hospital, P.O. Box 4000, Mountain Home, TN 37684.
