CARTER COUNTY, TN - OBITUARIES - Beryl C. Hatley, 7 Jan 2005 ----¤¤¤---- Beryl C. Hatley, 84, Bowman Avenue, Jonesborough, died Friday, January 7, 2005, at the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center. Mr. Hatley was a native of Carter County and a son of the late Alvin and Minnie Arnold Hatley. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ann Hatley, June 30, 2003, and five brothers, Lawrence, Hubert, Brown, Cliff and Wayne Hatley. Mr. Hatley was a retired employee of North American Rayon Corporation. He served in the Philippines during World War II, where he served in the United States Army, and was awarded several honorable metals for his service. He was a member of Elk River Baptist Church but attended the Second Baptist Church of Jonesborough. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Douglas and Nelda Hatley, Butler; two daughters and sons-in-law, Clara and Homer Anderson, Land "O" Lakes, Fla., and Marjorie and Joe Valentine, Kingsport; a brother, Carl "Joe" Hatley, Elizabethton; two sisters, Christine Payne and Dorothy Pearson, both of Butler; an uncle, Rudy Arnold, Elizabethton; several nieces and nephews; his former wife, Ruby Hatley, Elizabethton; and his special friends, Amy Lester, John and Kathy Jones, Cora Lee Millsaps, Frances Deakins, Louise Anders, Dr. David Walters, the staff of the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center and many others. Also his two dogs, Penny and Bo. Funeral services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Sunday, January 9, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with Pastor Joe Beaver and Pastor Terry Abel officiating. Graveside services and interment will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday, January 10, in the National Cemetery, Mountain Home. Active pallbearers and Military Honors will be conducted by the Tennessee National Guard. Honorary pallbearers will be David Watts, Larry Hatley, Gary Lester, John Jones, Terry Proffitt, Gary Ornduff, Paul Burleson, Jim Watts, Ronnie Campbell, Paul Campbell, Howard Campbell, Rick Arnold and the men of the Second Baptist Church of Jonesborough. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Friends may also call at the residence of Ruby Hatley, Earl Avenue, Elizabethton.
