CARTER COUNTY, TN - OBITUARIES - George E. Hazelwood, 9 Nov 2003 ----¤¤¤---- George E. Hazelwood George E. Hazelwood, age 71, Oscar Johnson Rd., Hampton, died Sunday, November 9, 2003 at Johnson City Medical Center Hospital following an extended illness. A native of Carter County, he was the son of the late Rose Ellen Hazelwood. He was a member of Pleasant Beach Baptist Church. Mr. Hazelwood was a retired employee of the Tennessee Highway Department as a supervisor in the surveying department. He was also a professional musician and had preformed at the Grand Ole Opry with Carl Story and the Rambling Mountaineers and with Raymond Fairchild and The Maggie Valley Boys. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy M. Hazelwood, September 2002, and two sisters, Ressie Lewis and Mary Potter. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Susie and Jerry Keys, Jonesborough; a son and daughter-in-law, Bud and Sandy Hazelwood, Elizabethton; four grandchildren, Jeramie Keys, Esq., and spouse Christy Keys, Atlanta, Ga.; Ashley Keys, Jonesborough; Megan Hazelwood, Brody Hazelwood, both of Elizabethton, and one sister, Mildred Montgomery, Hampton. Several nieces and nephews also survive. The funeral service will be conducted at 8 p.m. Tuesday, November 11, 2003 at Tetrick Funeral Home Chapel of Peace, Elizabethton with Rev. Bobby Stout, and Rev. Keith Williams officiating. Music will be under the direction of Paul Williams and The Victory Trio, Pleasant Beach Baptist Church Quartet, Trey Hensley and Hunter Berry and G.C. Matlock. The graveside service and interment will be held Wednesday, November 12, 2003 at 2 p.m. at John Miller Cemtery, Butler, with Rev. Glenn Keller officiating. Active pallbearers will be Jeramie Keys, Esq., Brody Hazelwood, L.J. Heaton, Dale Potter, Dean Reece, Ray Evan, Jerry Lynn Montgomery and Clark Austin. Honorary pallbearers will be Clarence Berry, Charlie Booher, Dale Buckles, Dr. Robert Allen, Donnie Carden, E.C. Vines, Carl Estep, nephews, men of Pleasant Beach Baptist Church, employees of the State Highway Department, employees of the Carter County Highway Department, and all people who love bluegrass music. Those who plan to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the funeral home at 1 p.m. Wednesday to go in procession to the cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, at Tetrick Funeral Home Chapel of Peace.
