CARTER COUNTY, TN - OBITUARIES - Charles E. Hazelwood Sr., 30 Mar 2005 ----¤¤¤---- Charles E. Hazelwood Sr., 76, Holly Hill Road, Roan Mountain, died Wednesday, March 30, 2005, at his residence following an extended illness. Mr. Hazelwood was a native of Carter County and a son of the late Malcolm and Mary Docia Radford Hazelwood. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Elizabeth Hazelwood. Mr. Hazelwood was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving in the U.S. Army, and also served in the National Guard. He was a member of Little Mountain Baptist Church. Mr. Hazelwood was retired from the Carter County School System, having taught at Little Milligan Elementary School for many years. He was a member of the American Federation of Teachers, and a member and past president of the Tennessee Federation of Teachers, from whom he received a Lifetime Achievement Award. He was a member of the Captain Lynn H. Folsom VFW Post #2166. Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Jane Hazelwood, of the home; two sons, Charles Hazelwood Jr., Jonesborough, and Roland Hazelwood, Johnson City; a daughter, Linda Pardue, Johnson City; eight grandchildren; nine great- grandchildren; a sister, Christeen Clark, Kingsport; two nieces and two nephews. The funeral service for Mr. Hazelwood will be conducted at 8 p.m. Friday, April 8, in the Riverside Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home with the Rev. Burl Sluder officiating. Interment will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 9, in the Alex Lacy Family Cemetery, Roan Mountain. Everyone will meet at the cemetery at 11 a.m. Saturday for the graveside service. Military Honors will be provided by the Captain Lynn H. Folsom VFW Post #2166. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 until 8 p.m. Friday, prior to the service. Active pallbearers will be Leon Whitehead, Billy Bowers, Verl Bowers, Roy "Butch" Clark Jr., Sonny Whitehead and William "Bill" Clark.
