Heaton 4/17/00 Fred Allen Heaton, 77, 800 North Pine Street, Elizabethton, died Friday, April 14, 2000, at Johnson City Medical Center following a brief illness. Mr. Heaton was a native of Carter County and had lived most of his life in Elizabethton. He was a son of the late Edgar and Mandy Hicks Heaton. Mr. Heaton was a U.S. Marine Veteran of World War II and a member of the American Legion Post #49. He was a member of First Christian Church. Survivors include his wife, Hazel Cates Heaton, of the home; three daughters and sons-in-law, Lois and James M. Shell Jr. and June and Roger Shepard, all of Elizabethton, and Joyce and Tony Church, Johnson City; a sister, L. Fay Heaton, Elizabethton; a granddaughter, Amber Shell, Elizabethton; and two grandsons, Tyler Church, Johnson City, and Derek Stanley, Elizabethton. Hathaway-Percy Funeral Home, Sunset Chapel, (423) 543-5544, is in charge of arrangements. www.Funeral-Plans.com/Hathaway-Percy HEATON -- Funeral services for Fred Allen Heaton, 77, 800 North Pine Street, Elizabethton, who died Friday, April 14, 2000, will be held at 8 p.m. Monday, April 17, at Hathaway-Percy Funeral Home, Sunset Chapel, with Mr. Donald Marshall and Mr. Dewayne Calhoun, ministers, officiating. Music will be by Gene Estep, organist. Graveside services and interment will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 18, at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Johnny Russell, John Campbell, Wayne Shell, Leonard Febuary, Randy Tadlock, Bill Carter, Lynn Montgomery and Ernest Montgomery. Honorary pallbearers will be the men of First Christian Church and R.C. Bradshaw, Hansel Winters, Arlie Vaughn, Donald Williams, friends and neighbors. To those who desire, memorials may be made to the Building Fund, First Christian Church, 513 Hattie Avenue, Elizabethton, Tenn. 37643. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Friends may also call at the residence, 800 North Pine Street, Elizabethton, any time. Everyone will meet at the funeral home at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday to go in procession to the cemetery.
