CARTER COUNTY, TN - OBITUARIES - Ruth Galloway Hilt, 8 Jan 2005 ----¤¤¤---- Mrs. Ruth Galloway Hilt, 91, of Elizabethton, died Saturday, January 8, 2005, at Asbury Center, Johnson City. Mrs. Hilt was a native of Wise County, Va., and a daughter of the late John Franklin and Elsie Blevins Galloway. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Andrew Hilt, in 1966, a son, William Andrew Hilt Jr., a granddaughter, Karen Ann Waligroski, two sisters, Mabel Moore and Jessie Patterson, and three brothers, Eugene, Harry and Vernon Galloway. Mrs. Hilt had lived in Elizabethton for over 70 years. She owned and operated Ruth Hilt Draperies for several years and was a member of First United Methodist Church of Elizabethton where she was a Sunday School Teacher for a number of years. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Patricia H. and Edward Waligroski, Beech Mountain, N.C.; two grandsons, James Edward Waligroski and his wife Janice, Vineland, N.J., and Gregg Andrew Waligroski, Boulder, Colo.; three nieces, Carolyn Norris and her husband Gerald, Anne Johnson and her husband Eddie, all of Elizabethton, and Linda Galloway, Gardiner, Maine; a great-nephew, Michael Owens and his wife Lora and their son, Heath; a sister- in-law, Maxine Galloway, San Diego, Calif.; and a special friend, Dorothy Wood. Funeral services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Monday, January 10, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with Rev. Buford Hankins officiating. Entombment services will be conducted at 9 a.m. Tuesday, January 11, in the Mausoleum of Hope at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Honorary pallbearers will be Gerald Norris, Eddie Johnson, Michael Owens and Joe Wood. The family would like to express a special "Thank You" to the staff of the Asbury Center, Johnson City. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. To those who prefer, memorials may be made in memory of Mrs. Hilt to the East Tennessee Branch of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, Phone 888-833- 2873. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday to go to the cemetery.
