Holtsclaw Edith Barnett Holtsclaw, 89, of Roan Highlands Nursing Home, formerly of the Whitehead Hill area of Roan Mountain, died Tuesday, July 4, 2000, at Roan Highlands Nursing Home following a lengthy illness. Mrs. Holtsclaw was a native of Carter County and a daughter of the late Herb and Bessie Barnett. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Mary Brewer, and two brothers, Roosevelt Barnett and Zeb Barnett. Mrs. Holtsclaw was a member of Victory Baptist Church. She was retired from the food service industry and was a homemaker. Survivors include her husband, Beecher Holtsclaw, Roan Mountain; three sons, J.L. Holtsclaw, Quinlan, Texas, Dennis Holtsclaw, Hampton, and Gene Holtsclaw, Roan Mountain; three daughters, Delores Jarrett, Roan Mountain, Claire Malito, Lake Worth, Fla., and Lori Benfield, Newland, N.C.; 11 grandchildren, Terry Jarrett, Gerald Holtsclaw, Larry Jarrett, Sandra Hughes, Beth Holtsclaw and Beecher Holtsclaw, all of Roan Mountain, Sherry Lowe, Shreveport, La., Jill Hesterman, Warrensburg, Mo., Stormy Holtsclaw, Elizabethton, Lonnie Benfield and Colby Benfield, both of Newland, N.C.; five great-grandchildren; and a sister, Geneva Motz, Johnson City. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Tetrick Funeral Home, Rhododendron Chapel, Roan Mountain, is in charge of arrangements. www.Funeral-Plans.com/Tetrick HOLTSCLAW -- Funeral services for Edith Barnett Holtsclaw, 89, of Roan Highlands Nursing Home, formerly of the Whitehead Hill area of Roan Mountain, who died Tuesday, July 4, 2000, will be conducted at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, July 6, at Tetrick Funeral Home, Rhododendron Chapel, Roan Mountain, with Rev. Jerry Honeycutt officiating. Music will be under the direction of Victory Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Vester Jarrett Cemetery, Roan Mountain. Active pallbearers will be Paul Mali to, Tim Hughes, Ricky Holtsclaw, Larry Jarrett, Gerald Holtsclaw and Kim Barnett. The family will receive friends from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Friends may also call at the home of a daughter, Delores Jarrett, Roan Mountain, any time.
