Gennieve Holtsclaw 

Gennieve Holtsclaw, age 93, 498 Burbank Road, Roan Mountain died Monday, 
September 1, 2003 at Cannon Memorial Hospital, Linville, North Carolina, 
following an extended illness. 
She was a native of Welch, West Virginia, but had lived in Carter County 
most of her life. 
She was the daughter of the late Charlie Brewer and Ida Campbell Brewer 
Street. 
She was a Protestant and a homemaker. 
She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Holtsclaw; a son, L.D. 
Holtsclaw; three brothers and three sisters. 
Survivors include two daughters, Ida Lue Newby, of Zephyrhills, Fla.; Naomi 
Hembree, of Roan Mountain; nine grandchildren - and a very special granddaughter 
whom Mrs. Holtsclaw called "Angel" - Melissa Collins, of Roan Mountain; 14 great 
grandchildren, and one sister, Martha Hughes, of Roan Mountain. Several nieces 
and nephews also survive. 
The funeral service for Gennieve Holtsclaw will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday,
September 4, 2003 at Tetrick Funeral Home Rhododendron Chapel, Roan Mountain, 
with Rev. Michael Lusk officiating. Music will be under the direction of Charlotte 
Smith and Jay Reynolds. Interment will follow the funeral service at Holtsclaw 
Family Cemetery, Sugar Hollow, Roan Mountain. Active pallbearers will be selected 
from family and friends. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. T
hursday at the Rhododendron Chapel, Roan Mountain, or friends may call at the 
residence, 498 Burbank Road, Roan Mountain, any time. Online condolences may be
