CARTER COUNTY, TN - OBITUARIES - Carmel Guy Holtsclaw, 25 May 2004 ----¤¤¤---- Carmel Guy Holtsclaw, 78, U.S. Highway 19-E, Roan Mtn., died Tuesday, May 25, 2004, at Stockton Residential Home for the Elderly. He was a native of Carter County and was a son of the late Weaber and Ethel Johnson Holtsclaw. He was of the Baptist faith. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his step-mother; the one that raised him, Nettie Edney Holtsclaw; four brothers, Arville, Boyd, Conley, and Danny Holtsclaw; and two sisters, Vernie Hughes and Norma Birchfield. Survivors include three sisters and one brother-in-law, Onza Johnson, Beulah Hughes, Renolee and J.D. Whitehead, all of Roan Mountain; one sister-in-law, Blanche Holtsclaw, Roan Mountain; 13 nephews and 13 nieces, and several great-nieces and great-nephews. Also surviving are special friends, Leroy and Louella Stockton, Diane Tolley, Tammy Blevins, Mitt Tonnson, all employees of Stockton's Residential Home for the Elderly. The funeral service will be conducted at 8 p.m. Thursday, May 27, 2004 at the Rhododendron Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home, Roan Mountain, with the Rev. Barry Shepherd and Pastor Jerry McCoury officiating. Music will be under the direction of Burbank Quartet. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday prior to the funeral service, or friends may call at the residence of Onza Johnson, 179 Hampton Creek Rd., Roan Mountain, any time. The graveside service and burial will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, May 28, 2004 at Johnson Cemetery, Crabtree Community. Active pallbearers will be all nephews, Vernon, Roman, Gary, Johnny, Kenneth, Eddie, Ricky Holtsclaw, Enith Rhymer, Wade and Gary Dale Hughes, Junior and Rondal, and Scotty Whitehead. Honorary pallbearers will be Ivy Height Baptist Church Men's Class, Burbank Baptist Church Men's Class, Morgan Branch Baptist Church Men's Class and Joe Berry. Those who plan to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the cemetery at 10:55 a.m. on Friday.
