Humphreys 12/30/99 John Clyde Humphreys, 80, of Roan Highlands Nursing Center, Roan Mountain, died Tuesday, December 28, 1999, at Johnson City Medical Center after a lengthy illness. Mr. Humphreys was a native of Tennessee and had lived most of his life in Watauga. He was a son of the late John C. and Cora Keller Humphreys and was also preceded in death by a daughter, Teresia Humphreys, his first wife, Elsie Sweeten Humphreys, three brothers and a sister. Mr. Humphreys had been an owner-operator of a construction company and was a Veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army. He was a member of Watauga Christian Church. Survivors include three sons, Billy Humphreys, Orlando, Fla., Donnie Humphreys, Dallas, Texas, and Jeff Humphreys, Akron, Ohio; three brothers, Harold Humphreys, Dallas, Texas, Lonnie Humphreys and Bruce Humphreys, both of Johnson City; and a sister, Phillis H. Hayden, Lexington, Ky. Ten grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive. Morris-Baker Funeral Home, 2001 Oakland Avenue, Johnson City, (423) 282-1521, is in charge of arrangements. HUMPHREYS -- Funeral services for John Clyde Humphreys, 80, of Roan Highlands Nursing Center, Roan Mountain, who died Tuesday, will be held at 8 p.m. Thursday from the North Chapel of Morris-Baker Funeral Home with Brother Tony Duncan officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday. A committal service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Monte Vista Burial Park.
