CARTER COUNTY, TN - OBITUARIES - James William Hoffman, 6 Sep 2004 ----¤¤¤---- James William Hoffman, 84, Little Avenue, Elizabethton, died Monday, September 6, 2004 in the Sycamore Shoals Hospital. A native of Washington County, he was a son of the late Joseph and Rose Guinn Hoffman. He had lived in Elizabethton for the past 30 years. He was a retired heavy equipment operator with the Washington County Highway Department. He was of the Baptist faith. He served in the United States Army during World War II. He was preceded in death by a son, James P. Hoffman; a step-son, Donnie Taylor; one brother and one sister. Survivors include four daughters and two sons-in-law, Melissa and Paul Linberg and Tisha and Eddie Turbyfill, all of Elizabethton; Kathy Hurt, Jonesborough, and Deborah Reece, Hampton; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Stacey and Tammy Hoffman, Elizabethton, and Keith Taylor, Johnson City; seven grandchildren; one great-grandson, and one sister, Doria Taylor. Graveside services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday, September 9, 2004 in the National Cemetery, Mountain Home, with the VA chaplain officiating. Military honors will be conducted by the VFW Post #2166. There will be no visitation at the funeral home. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 12:15 p.m. Thursday to go to the cemetery. Condolences may be e-mailed to mfc@chartertn.net.
