CARTER COUNTY, TN - OBITUARIES - Mary Lee Blevins Hopson, 17 Feb 2003 ----¤¤¤---- Mary Hopson Mrs. Mary Lee Blevins Hopson, 82, 371 Tiger Creek Road, Roan Mountain, died Monday, February 17, 2003 in the Hermitage Health Care Center following a brief illness. A native of Carter County, she was the daughter of the late James and Arizona Miller Blevins. She had been a substitute teacher with the Carter County School System, the Head Start Program, and had also been an employee of the Upper East Tennessee Human Development Agency for nineteen years. She was of the Freewill Baptist faith. She was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil Hopson; one sister, Maude Walton, and one brother, Lon Blevins. Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Sherry and Jerry Freeman, Elizabethton, and Sandy and Roger Banks, Johnson City; one brother, Luther Blevins, Tiger Creek Community, Roan Mountain; three grandchildren, Brian Freeman and Drew Freeman, both of Elizabethton, and Scott Simerly, Jonesborough; two great grandchildren, Seth Simerly and Sage Simerly, both of Jonesborough, and a special friend, Raybon Wallace, Elizabethton. HOPSON -- The funeral service for Mrs. Mary Lee Blevins Hopson, 82, 371 Tiger Creek Road, Roan Mountain, who died Monday, February 17, 2003, will be conducted at 8 p.m. Wednesday, February 19, 2003 in the Sunset Chapel of Hathaway-Percy Funeral Home with the Rev. Joe Manis officiating. Music will be under the direction of Kathryn Collins, Marilyn Bowers, and Jo Ann Perkins. Graveside services and interment will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, February 20, 2003 in the James Blevins Cemetery in the Tiger Creek Community. Active pallbearers will be Dexter Perkins, Frank Highsmith, Jack Simerly, Jeff Simerly, Jeff Depew, Lester Simerly, and Ben Johnson. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Charles Allen, Dennis Blackburn, Jack Roberts, John Henry Simerly, Paul Blevins, Ray McNeil, Ricky Simerly, Ralph Mitchell, William "Bill" Roberts, and Roy Honeycutt. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday or at the residence of a daughter, Sherry Freeman, 168 Carden Drive, Elizabethton, at any time.
