CARTER COUNTY, TN - OBITUARIES - Arlin E. Hopson, 4 Jan 2005 ----¤¤¤---- Arlin E. Hopson, 73, Ontario Drive, Elizabethton, died Tuesday, January 4, 2005, at the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center. Mr. Hopson was a native of Carter County and a son of the late William "Bill" and Ailene Nave Hopson. Mr. Hopson attended East Tennessee State University and was a graduate of the Andrew Jackson Business College, Nashville. He was a retired Accountant for the Raytheon Corporation after 38 years of service and was a member of Grace Baptist Church. Mr. Hopson served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 2166, The American Legion. He held a Life Membership in the Elizabethton Moose Lodge No. 360. He received the Fellowship Degree in 1968, The Pilgrim Degree, The Highest Degree of Merit in 1970, was past Governor of the Elizabethton Moose Lodge No. 360 and was the Administrator of the Lodge for over 25 years. He was a loving Husband, Father and Grandfather. Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Lois Faye Hardin Hopson; a son and daughter-in-law, David Keith and Connie Hopson, of Hawaii; a daughter, Judy Hopson, Elizabethton; three grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; three sisters, Francis Stout, Jonesborough, and Geraldine Hodge and Ruby Vandergriff, both of Elizabethton; three nieces; five nephews; his mother-in- law, Ruby Hardin, Elizabethton; his brother-in-law, John Hardin and his wife, Nyoka; a sister-in-law, Erma Myers and her husband, George; a very special foster daughter and her son, Karen and Cody Turbyfill; a half sister, Brenda McClure, Elizabethton; and a step-sister, Sue Fair, Roan Mountain. Funeral services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Thursday, January 6, at Grace Baptist Church with Rev. Chris Hughes, Rev. Ron Owens and Chaplain Matthew Barber officiating. Music will be provided by Gordon Kyte. Graveside services and interment will be at 10 a.m. Friday, January 7, in the Caldwell Springs Cemetery. Active pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 9:15 a.m. Friday, will be Glenn Stout, Ronnie Stout, Gary Stout, Steven Hodge, Brian Hodge, Glenn Myers, Dr. James Myers and Lynn Myers. Honorary pallbearers will be Carl Elrod, J.B. Johnson, James Buckles, Kenneth "Butch" Andes, Larry Andes, David Burleson, Jack Byrd, Ray Lyons, Tony Bowers, Harold Smith, George Myers, John Hardin, Bruce Gouge and members of Grace Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Grace Baptist Church. Friends may also call at the residence or at the residence of any of his sisters. Members of the Elizabethton Moose Lodge No. 360 will conduct a service at the church. V.F.W. Post No. 2166 will conduct Military Graveside Honors. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 9:15 a.m. Friday to go to the cemetery.
