Howard Maggie Estep Howard, 96, formerly of 116 Dawn Drive, Elizabethton, died Saturday, January 20, 2001, at Pine Ridge Care Center following an extended illness. Mrs. Howard was a native of Carter County and the daughter of the late Crit T. and Eliza Ellis Estep. She was also preceded in death by her husband, James Clarence Howard, February 25, 1984; five sisters, Dorothy Estep Morley, Gladys Estep Morrell, Nell Estep Greenlee, Kathleen Estep Roberts and Tulva Estep; two brothers, Leslie Estep and Glenn Jobe Estep; and a grandson, Bill Kammer. Mrs. Howard was a member of Borderview Christian Church, but had attended Hunter First Baptist Church all of her married life. She was a former employee of North American Rayon Corporation for 22 years. Survivors include two daughters and a son-in-law, Jean Howard Jones, Elizabethton, and Marie Howard and Franklin Daniel Kammer, Williamsburg, Va.; a brother and sister-in-law, Tipton and Louise Estep, Cocoa, Fla.; and three grandsons and two granddaughters-in-law, Ron "Ronnie" Jones, Elizabethton, Franklin Daniel II and Kathy Kammer, Williamsburg, Va., and Michael Gordon and Rose Marie Kammer. Robert Howard and the Rev. Eric Eggers officiating. Music will be under the direction of Mrs. Sue Bowers, Kenneth Miller and Dale Williams. Graveside services and interment will be conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday, January 23, at Happy Valley Memorial Park with Dr. Dennis Deese and the Rev. Burl Garland officiating. Active pallbearers will be Dr. Keith Morley, Ron Jones, Franklin Daniel Kammer II, Michael Kammer, Landon Pritchard and Buddy Norris. Honorary pallbearers will be Cecil Eggers, Jim Cook, Jack Morrell and Glenn Estep. A special thank you to the Pine Ridge Health Care Center Nurses and Staff. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
