Hughes Mrs. Mattie A. Shull Hughes, 77, of N.H.C. Healthcare Center, Bristol Highway, Johnson City, formerly of Lynnwood Drive, Johnson City, died Thursday, May 16, 2002, at Johnson City Medical Center following a lengthy illness. Mrs. Hughes was a native of Carter County and had been a resident of Johnson City for most of her life. She was a daughter of the late John and Pearl Taylor Shull and was also preceded in death by her husband, Wayne Edward Hughes, in 1992, and by three brothers and a sister. Mrs. Hughes was a homemaker and a member of Clifton View Baptist Church. Survivors include a son, Wayne Hughes, Johnson City; a daughter, Joann Ramsey, Nolensville, Tenn.; three grandchildren, Christopher Hughes, Dillon, S.C., Samantha Gullahorn, San Diego, Calif., and Nick Ramsey, Lexington, Va.; and a great-granddaughter, Morgan Hughes, Elizabethton. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Appalachian Funeral Home, 800 E. Watauga Avenue, Johnson City, (423) 928-6111, is in charge of arrangements. HUGHES -- Funeral services for Mrs. Mattie A. Shull Hughes, 77, of N.H.C. Healthcare Center, Bristol Highway, Johnson City, formerly of Lynnwood Drive, Johnson City, who died Thursday, May 16, 2002, will be conducted at 5 p.m. Sunday, May 19, in the West Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Home with the Rev. Claude Babb officiating. Graveside committal services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, May 20, in the Mountain Home National Cemetery. Those planning to attend the committal service are asked to meet at the funeral home by 1:30 p.m. Monday to proceed to the cemetery. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
