CARTER COUNTY, TN - OBITUARIES - Kansas "Kate" Hughes, 27 Jan 2003 ----¤¤¤---- Kansas Hughes Kansas "Kate" Hughes, 83, formerly of 152 Howard Lipford Drive, Elizabethton, died Monday, January 27, 2003, at Ivy Hall Nursing Home following a brief illness. Mrs. Hughes was a native of Carter County and a daughter of the late William Floyd and Sarah Street Greer. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Deborah Lynn Hughes, and by three brothers and three sisters. Mrs. Hughes was a member of Eastside Free Will Baptist Church, where she previously was very active in the church and was a Sunday School teacher. She retired from Carter County Memorial Hospital where she was an LPN and a Respiratory Therapist. Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Henrietta and Jim Chaney and Mary Lou and Jimmy Street, all of Elizabethton; a grandson and granddaughter-in-law, Stacy and Susan Street, Elizabethton; three granddaughters and grandsons-in-law, Sara and Linwood McNure, Statesboro, Ga., Dena and David Bass, Elizabethton, and Pam and Tommy Hoffee, Griffin, Ga.; four great-grandchildren, Ashley Bass, Annie Street and Nicholas Street, all of Elizabethton, and Garrett Hoffee, Griffin, Ga.; a brother, Elige Greer, Burlington, N.C.; a sister, Marie Barnett, Roan Mountain; and an uncle, Roby Greer, Elizabethton. Paul Humphrey and the Rev. Joe Sorah officiating. Those who plan to attend the service are requested to meet at the funeral home at 1 p.m. Wednesday to go in procession to the cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Jimmy Street, Jim Chaney, Stacy Street, David Bass, Linwood McNure and Carl "Red" Canter. Honorary pallbearers will be nephews, Joseph Taylor, friends, neighbors and the staff of Ivy Hall Nursing Home. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Tetrick Funeral Home of Elizabethton.
