CARTER COUNTY, TN - OBITUARIES - Ruth Evelyn Humphrey, 28 May 2005 --------------¤¤¤¤¤¤-------------- Mrs. Ruth Evelyn Humphrey, 75, formerly of Dry Creek Road, Elizabethton, died Saturday, May 28, 2005, in the Johnson City Medical Center Hospital following a lengthy illness. Mrs. Humphrey was a native of Washington County and a daughter of the late Sam H. and Edith Jarrett Chesser. She was a member of the Elizabethton Senior Citizens, and a member of the First Christian Church in Elizabethton. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Humphrey in 1994; by two sisters, Lois Laws and Peggy Graybeal and by one great-grandson, Thomas Ryan Johnston. Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, David and Edwina Humphrey, Elizabethton; one daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Jerry Douglas, Telford; one brother, Sam Chesser, Jr., Elizabethton; one sister, Mae Grindstaff, Elizabethton; one half-brother, Bobby Jarrett, Elizabethton; two grandchildren and their husbands, Debbie and Scott Johnston and Jerry Sue and Richard Wallace, all of Telford; two great-grandsons, Joshua Ray Johnston and Shaun Daniel Johnston, both of Telford; one step-great-granddaughter, Amber Rose Wallace, Johnson City; a special friend, Elizabeth Padgett, Elizabethton; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral service for Ruth Evelyn Humphrey will be conducted at 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 1, 2005, in the Sunset Chapel of Hathaway-Percy Funeral Home, with Mr. Brent Nidiffer, Minister, officiating. Graveside service and interment will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 2, 2005, in Lyons Chapel Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Scott Johnston, Richard Wallace, Bruce Grindstaff, Joey Adams, Troy Graybeal and Michael Graybeal. Honorary pallbearer will be Mike Townsand. The family will receive friends in the funeral home from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, prior to the service. Everyone will meet at the cemetery at 10:50 a.m. Thursday for the graveside service.
