Hyder 2/08/00 William Haskel Hyder, 78, of Mt. Vernon, Ore., died Friday, February 4, 2000, at his home. Mr. Hyder was a native of Elizabethton and a son of the late Cecil R. Hyder and Amanda Nidiffer Hyder of Elizabethton. Mr. Hyder served in the Civilian Conservation Corps and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, retiring after 20 years of service. He was a veteran of World War II. Following his retirement from the military, Mr. Hyder moved to Grant County, Ore., where he worked for the U.S. Forest Service and owned his own meat shop for several years. He was also a rancher. He was preceded in death by a sister, Lillian Hyder Nidiffer; and three brothers, Cecil Hyder Jr., Burnett Hyder and Clay Hyder. Survivors include his wife, Lee Hyder of the home; a son and daughter- in-law, Bill and Marilin Hyder, Honolulu, Hawaii; a daughter and son-in- law, Bob and Connie Maddox, Powell Butte, Ore.; three brothers, Charles Hyder, Mt. Vernon, Ore., and Jack and Verle Hyder, both of Elizabethton; and three sisters; Lizetta Pierce, Evelyn Byrd and Ann Singleton, all of Elizabethton. Four grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services and burial will be held Tuesday, February 8, in Mt. Vernon, Ore. Driskill Funeral Home, Mount Vernon, Ore., (541) 575-0529, is in charge of arrangements.
