Mr. Hyder was a native of Carter County and a son of the late Ora T. and Phoebe Dugger Hyder. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Pauline Long Hyder, a brother, Mack C. Hyder, and two sisters, Edith Hyder Young and Ota Hyder Collins. Mr. Hyder was a graduate of Milligan College. He was a former supervisor at Tri-State Container Corporation, a former teacher at Happy Valley High School and a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II. He was a a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Johnson City, and a member of the Knights of Columbus. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Thomas Sexton and Nina Hyder, Elizabethton; a daughter and son-in-law, Janey and Earl Harmon, Elizabethton; a brother, Howard Hyder, Elizabethton; a grandson, Cody Hyder, Elizabethton; two granddaughters, Stephanie Isaacs and Shelley Hyder, both of Elizabethton; and a great-granddaughter, Samantha Isaacs, Elizabethton. Memorial Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements. HYDER -- Funeral services for Sexton Hyder, 77, 1374 Powder Branch Road, Elizabethton, who died Monday, August 28, 2000, will be conducted at 8 p.m. Wednesday, August 30, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with Father Richard Archer officiating. Graveside services and interment will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, August 31, at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, will be Mickey Hyder, Charles Riley, Ora Hyder, David Hyder, Lee Hubbard, Sam Lyons and Eddie Collins. Honorary pallbearers will be Hasford Estep, Horace Whitson, Albert Livingston, Mike Livingston, Shelby Williams, Greg Livingston, Alfred Livingston, Mike Townsend and Gary Townsend. An Honor Guard will be provided by the Knights of Columbus. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Friends may also call at the residence of a son and daughter-in-law, Tommy and Nina Hyder, 127 Morey Hyder Road, Elizabethton. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 10:30 a.m. Thursday to go to the cemetery. Memorial Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
