Jenkins Vaughn J. Jenkins, 78, 2251 Siam Road, Elizabethton, died Saturday, October 7, 2006, at his residence following an extended illness. Mr. Jenkins was the son of the late Marion and Mabel Hatmaker Jenkins and was a native of Carter County. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Owen Jenkins, Harold Jenkins and Marvin Jenkins, a sister, Mildred Bowers, and a stepdaughter, Judy. Mr. Jenkins was retired from the military with 24 years of service. He was in the United States Marine Corps during World War II, and in the United States Army during the Korean and Vietnam Conflicts. During his service he was awarded the Expert Infantryman's Badge, Expert Rifle, and Master Parachutist Badges. He was also a special forces parachutist. He was a former member of the Capt. Lynn H. Folsom VFW Post No. 2166 and the 101st Airborne Association. Survivors include his wife, Charlotte Jenkins, of the home; five sons and one daughter-in-law, Otto Jenkins of Johnson City, Tim and Shirley Jenkins of Elizabethton, Curtis Jenkins of Elizabethton, Dustin Jenkins and Tyler Jenkins, both of the home; four daughters and two sons-in-law, Penny and Bill Ayers of Elizabethton, Amanda and Elva Kisner of Erwin, Connie Jenkins of Elizabethton, and Megan Jenkins, of the home; 11 grandchildren, Paul, Nicole and Samantha Jenkins, Timothy, Taylor and Tabitha Jenkins, Cody and Austin Ayers, Brent Perry, Caleb Jenkins and Elva Kisner; and one brother, Fred Jenkins of Elizabethton. Several nieces and nephews also survive. The graveside service for Mr. Jenkins will be conducted at Mountain Home National Cemetery, Mountain Home, on Tuesday, October 10, at 11 a.m. with Military Honors accorded by service personnel from Fort Campbell, Ky. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Those who wish to attend the service, please meet at Tetrick Funeral Home in Elizabethton at 10 a.m. Tuesday to go in procession to the cemetery.
