Ms. James was a native of Cater County and the daughter of the late Wiley and Lou Sapp Watson. She was also preceded in death by three sons, Lloyd, Jackie and Ross Craig, three sisters, Omie Gillespie, Vivian Rogers and Ruth Kincaid, and four brothers, Warren Watson, William Watson, Charlie Watson and Clarence Watson. Ms. James was of the Christian faith and was a retired employee of Tri-State Container. Survivors include a daughter, Joan Avery, Elizabethton, and a son, John Walter James Jr., Elizabethton. Nine grandchildren, eight great- grandchildren, two nieces and one nephew also survive. Tetrick Funeral Home, 211 North Riverside Drive, Elizabethton, (423) 543-4917, is in charge of arrangements. Ernest Widby and the Rev. Timothy A. Waterson officiating. Music will be under the direction of Carol Thompson. Interment will follow at Watson Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Buddy Watson, Desmond Johnson, Willie Johnson, Steven Wagner and Robert Davis. Honorary pallbearers will be Randy Randall, Mack Trammell, James Forney, Al Dumas, John Gillespie, Richard Richmond, special friends Mr. and Mrs. Victor Deloach and family, and the staff of Ivy Hall. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Friends may also call at the residence of a daughter, Joan Avery, 606 Bingham Street, Elizabethton, at any time.
