Johnson Mrs. Lucille Baker Johnson, 91, 503 First Street, Hampton, died Thursday, June 1, 2000, at her residence. Mrs. Johnson was a lifelong resident of Hampton and a daughter of the late Captain David E. and Ada Evelyn Glover Baker. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Ray D. Johnson, in 1983, and a brother, Ralph K. Baker. Mrs. Johnson served as Chief Clerk of the Selective Service System of Carter County during World War II. She was appointed by President Harry Truman as Postmaster of the Hampton Post Office in July 1943, where she served until her retirement in December 1970. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Hampton, having served as church clerk and also a Sunday School teacher for many years. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Hampton Chapter #470. Survivors include a sister, Mrs. Ruby Smith, Hampton; a niece, Margaret Smith Hewlett, Signal Mountain; and three nephews, Sam G. Smith, Elizabethton, Eddie Smith, Hampton, and David E. Baker, Portland, Maine. Memorial Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements. JOHNSON -- Graveside services for Mrs. Lucille Baker Johnson, 91, 503 First Street, Hampton, who died Thursday, June 1, 2000, will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 3, at Happy Valley Memorial Park with Rev. Bill Taylor officiating. Pallbearers will be selected from nephews and great-nephews. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 9:30 a.m. Saturday to go to the cemetery. Memorial Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
