CARTER COUNTY, TN - OBITUARIES - Charles R. "Buss" Johnson, 29 Jun 2004 ----¤¤¤---- Charles R. "Buss" Johnson, 92, formerly of Five Sisters Lane, Roan Mountain, died Tuesday, June 29, 2004, at Roan Highlands Nursing Center following an extended illness. Mr. Johnson was a native of Carter County and the son of the late Alfred and Matilda Fields Johnson. Mr. Johnson was a member of Taylor's Chapel Church of Christ. He was a retired farmer and a substitute mail carrier. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in World War II. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Oda Oaks Johnson, August 28, 1992, a daughter, Roberta Johnson Woods, January 14, 2003, four sisters, Cora Caraway, Alma Holden, Maude Winters and Dorothy Laws, and five brothers, Clyde Johnson, Walt Johnson, Willard Johnson, Steve Johnson and Ed Johnson. Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Tom and Sandra Johnson, Roan Mountain, and one brother, Leonard Johnson, Johnson City. Six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive. The funeral service will be conducted at 8 p.m. Friday, July 2, at Tetrick Funeral Home, Rhododendron Chapel, Roan Mountain, with Mr. Steve Payne, minister, officiating. Music will be under the direction of Jim Palmer and singers of Centerview Church of Christ. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, prior to the funeral service. Friends may also call at the residence of a grandson, Scott Woods, 110 Five Sisters Lane, Roan Mountain, at any time. The graveside service and interment will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 3, at Taylor's Chapel Cemetery, Elk Park, N.C., with Military Honors to be accorded by the Tennessee Army National Guard. Active pallbearers will be J.S. Ashley, Alfred Caraway, David Davis, Roger Woods, Scott Woods and Arnold Woods. Those who plan to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the funeral home chapel at Roan Mountain at 10 a.m. Saturday to go in procession to the cemetery.
