Kerley Bob T. Kerley, age 73, of Jonesborough, formerly of Elizabethton, passed away at his home Friday, Oct., 7, 2005. A native of Roan Mountain, he was a son of the late Tom and Helen Julian Kerley. Mr. Kerley was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in the Korean Conflict. He was a recent member of Jonesborough United Methodist Church and a long-time member of Roan Mountain United Methodist Church. Mr. Kerley was a graduate of East Tennessee State University and received his master's degree from George Peabody College for Teachers. An educator for more than 40 years, he was principal at Man High School, Man, W.Va., and Happy Valley High School, Elizabethton. In 1998, he received the National Education Award from the Milikin Family Foundation. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Gloria Rankin Kerley whom he married in 1958; a sister, Betty Lou Kerley; and a grandson, John Thomas Knight. Survivors include two daughters, Kelli Ann Hradek, Bradenton, Fla., and Kimberly Jan Knight, Hinsdale, Ill.; four granddaughters, Lauren Ashley and Alexis Ann Hradek, Bradenton, Fla., and Madison and Caroline Knight, Hinsdale, Ill.; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Bill and Ruth Kerley, Roan Mountain, Lawson and Clarene Kerley, Elizabethton, and Harry and Josephine Kerley of Jonesborough. Several nieces and nephews also survive. The funeral service for Mr. Kerley will be conducted at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 11 at Tetrick Funeral Home, Chapel of Peace, Elizabethton, with the Rev. Steve Morrison and Dr. Bradley Scott officiating. Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home prior to the service. Committal and entombment services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 12, at the Mausoleum of Peace at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Those attending are asked to meet at 10:15 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home to go in procession to the cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Tom Kerley, Steve Kerley, Scott Davis, Charlie Bowman, David Arnold, Donald Greer and Jimmy Buchanan. Honorary pallbearers will be R. A. Burleson and Carrol Ellis. Memorial contributions may be made to the Jonesborough United Methodist Church, 211 W. Main StMountain, TN 37687.
