CARTER COUNTY, TN - OBITUARIES - Mary Nidiffer Ketchem, 12 Nov 2004 ----¤¤¤---- Mary Nidiffer Ketchem, 81, formerly of Smith Avenue, Elizabethton, died Friday, November 12, 2004, at Hillview Health Center. Mrs. Ketchem was a native of Carter County and a daughter of the late Robert Charles and Rhoda Dyles Nidiffer. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Elizabeth Nidiffer and Ruth Nidiffer Gross, and one brother and sister-in-law, James and Joann Stout Nidiffer. Mrs. Ketchem was a member of Pleasant Beach Baptist Church. She had retired from Levi Strauss. Survivors include her husband, Arvin C. "Toad" Ketchem, one daughter, Cathy Miller, one granddaughter, Cara Buchanan, and two great-grandchildren, Aston Bowers and Cameron Buchanan, all of Elizabethton, and five sisters, Alice Odom, Hillview Health Center, Evelyn Guinn, Westland, Mich., Helen Vannoy, Elizabethton, Phyllis Brewer, Johnson City, and Dorothy Sells, Piney Flats. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. The funeral service will be conducted at 4 p.m. Sunday, November 14, in the Riverside Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home with Rev. Kenneth Jones and Rev. Bobby Stout officiating. Music will be under the direction of Dean Palmer and the Pleasant Beach Quartet. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2 until 4 p.m. Sunday, prior to the service. Interment will follow at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Robert Holdren, Lee Foley, Gordon Lewis, James Berry, Malcom Johnson and Jeff Lewis. Honorary pallbearers will be the staff of Hillview Health Center. Those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers may make donations to the American Cancer Society, 209 S. Riverside Drive, Elizabethton, TN 37643.
