King Mrs. Virginia J. King, 82, Asbury Retirement Center, Wytheville, Va., formerly of 900 Sycamore Street, Elizabethton, died Monday, April 9, 2001, at Wythe County Community Hospital following an extended illness. Mrs. King was a native of Carter County and the daughter of the late Grant Hardin Sr. and Lucy Bowling Hardin. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Carl W. King, December 11, 1970, and by three sisters and three brothers. Mrs. King had lived in Wytheville for the past four years. She was a 1934 graduate of Elizabethton High School and a retired Sprint Telephone Operator. She was a member of Memorial Presbyterian Church of Elizabethton. Survivors include a son, Wayne King, Wytheville, Va.; a daughter-in-law, Peggy King, Wytheville, Va.; a grandson, Matt; a sister-in-law, Zola Eller, Elizabethton; four nieces, Patsy Benton Glass, June Donnelly and Betty Chambers, all of Elizabethton, and Carol Johnson, Baltimore, Md.; and three special friends, Lisa Wiedl and Loretta Marshall, both of Wytheville, Va., and Gladys Sheets, Elizabethton. Memorial Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements. KING -- Funeral services for Mrs. Virginia J. King, 82, Asbury Retirement Center, Wytheville, Va., formerly of 900 Sycamore Street, Elizabethton, who died Monday, April 9, 2001, will be conducted at 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 11, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Steven Meyerhoff officiating. Graveside services and interment will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 12, at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, will be Joel Hodge, Ray McNeal, Mike Donnelly, Bobby Glass, Terry Chambers and Tom Oxendine. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 10:30 a.m. Thursday to go to the cemetery. Memorial Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
