Matilda O. Ledford 





    Matilda Opal Ledford, 87, 1235 Hillside Drive, Elizabethton, beloved by 

her family and friends, went home to be with her Lord on Tuesday, February 20, 

2007, at her residence following an extended illness. 





    Mrs. Ledford was born in Carter County on August 6, 1919, and was the 

daughter of the late Dan and Mary Robinson Cole. In addition to her parents, 

she was preceded in death by her husband, Homer Wade Ledford, August 13, 1970. 





    Mrs. Ledford was a former employee of Bemberg Corporation, was a homemaker 

and a wonderful mother. She loved to quilt, can and take care of her 

grandchildren and her great-grandchildren. She was of the Baptist faith. 





    Survivors include four daughters and two sons-in-law, Rose B. Ledford, of 

the home, Mary Lee and Garfield Williams of Elizabethton, Sue Combs of Roan 

Mountain and Ruth and Mack Elliott of Elizabethton; two sons and daughters-in-

law, Wade and Shirley Ledford of Elizabethton and Dayton and Brenda Ledford of 

Spindale, N.C.; three sisters; four brothers; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-

grandchildren; and a very special friend, Mrs. Virgie Hardin of Elizabethton. 

Several nieces and nephews also survive. 





    The Celebration of Life service for Mrs. Ledford will be conducted at 7:30 

p.m. Thursday, February 22, in the Riverside Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home, 

Elizabethton, with the Rev. Ronnie Edwards officiating. Music will be under 

the direction of Howard Holsclaw Jr. The family will receive friends in the 

funeral home chapel from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, prior to the service, and at 

other times at the home of her son, Wade Ledford, 268 Russell Hill Road, 

Elizabethton. The graveside service and interment will be conducted at 11 a.m. 

Friday, February 23, in the Cole Cemetery, Lacy Hollow. Active pallbearers 

will be selected from family and friends. Those wishing to attend the 

graveside service are asked to meet at the funeral home at 10:15 a.m. Friday 

to go in procession to the cemetery. The family would like to extend a special 

thank you to Dr. Scott Caudle and the outpatient services of the Regional 

Cancer Center of Johnson City Medical Center Hospital for all the love and 

care shown to Mrs. Ledford during her illness. Condolences may be sent to the
