Lewis Sr. Raymond K. Lewis Sr., 83, 500 Division Street, Elizabethton, went home to be with his Lord, Sunday, December 16, 2007, from his residence following an extended illness. A native of Carter County (Carden's Bluff), he was a son of the late P.P. and Annie Lewis. Mr. Lewis was a member and deacon of Union Baptist Church, Hampton. He was the owner and operator of Lewis Service Station and Lewis Used Cars for over 50 years. He was a member of Hampton Masonic Lodge No. 750 F&AM for over 55 years, a member of the York Rite, Scottish Rite, charter member of Jericho Shrine Temple and member and past president of the Elizabethton Shrine Oriental Band. Mr. Lewis served in World War II with the U.S. Army, participating in the Battle of the Bulge and the liberation of France. He attained the rank of Corporal. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Beulah Lewis, Lena Lawson and Georgia Shoun, and two brothers, Kenneth and Melvin Lewis. Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Ivory Hill Lewis, of the home; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Linda and Johnny Ramsey, Brenda and Wayne Davis, all of Hampton, and Glenna Morton, Elizabethton; three sons and daughters-in-law, Ray Jr. and Maxine Lewis, Dana "Randy" and Eddie Lewis, all of Elizabethton, and Rex and Angela Lewis, Johnson City; five grandchildren and their spouses, Wendi and Chris Kasting, Johnson City, John and Christa Ramsey, Ronnie and Felicia Heaton, all of Elizabethton, Summer Morton, Johnson City, and Ria Davis, Hampton; and nine great-grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews also survive. The funeral service for Mr. Lewis will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, December 19, at Union Baptist Church with Rev. Pete Pollard and Rev. Haskel Ingram officiating. Music will be provided by the church choir. Interment will follow in the Union Baptist Church Cemetery with music by Howard Ensor, bagpiper. Military Honors will be accorded by the Captain Lynn H. Folsom VFW Post No. 2166. Active pallbearers will be Bill Shoun, Daniel Lewis, Chris Kasting, Karl Grindstaff, Larry Taylor, Wayne Johnson and Johnny Julian. Honorary pallbearers will be Billy Odom, Bob Lipford, Pearly Richardson, Jack Perkins, Doug Stair, Bob Williams, Howard Matherly, Terry Arnold, Junior Stanley, members of the Elizabethton Shrine Oriental Band, fellow deacons of Union Baptist Church and all loyal customers of Lewis Service Station. The family will receive friends in the Chapel of Peace of Tetrick Funeral Home from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, December 18. Friends may also call at the residence at anytime. Following the visitation, a Masonic Service will be conducted by the Hampton Masonic Lodge No. 750 F&AM.
