Lipford Jr. James H. Lipford Jr., 82, 712 Carriger Avenue, Elizabethton, died Saturday, May 6, 2006, at the residence of a daughter and son-in-law, Angela and Larry Markland, 2516 Bob Little Road, Elizabethton. Mr. Lipford was a native of Carter County and a son of the late James H. and Addie Crow Lipford. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Audrey Lois Lipford, two sons, James A. Lipford and Phil Lipford, a sister, Shirley Chappell, and a brother, Basil Lipford. In his earlier years, he had been employed by the Elizabethton Police Department, the Carter County Sheriff's Department and North American Rayon Corporation. He retired from the Elizabethton Water Department. He attended the Church of Christ. Mr. Lipford served in the United States Army during World War II. He was a member of the V.F.W. Post No. 2166 and the Royal Order of the Moose. Survivors include his children, Matthew Lipford and Mitchell Lipford, both of the home, Susan and Bobby Ellison and Mark and Louise Lipford, all of Hampton, Shelly Hardin, Kevin Lipford and Angela and Larry Markland, all of Elizabethton; his sisters, Geraldine Vandeventer and her husband Gene, and Beulah Snavely, all of Elizabethton, Roberta, of San Antonio, Texas, and Mary King, Johnson City; and two brothers and sisters-in-law, Robert "Bob" and Evelyn Lipford and Jack and Judy Lipford, all of Elizabethton. Sixteen grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services for Mr. Lipford will be conducted at 3 p.m. Tuesday, May 9, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with Pastor Ken Hauser officiating. Music will be provided by Dan Boner and J.P. Mathes. Interment will follow at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers and Military Honors will be provided by the Tennessee National Guard. Honorary pallbearers will be Randy Lewis, Willie Holtsclaw, Jim Murray, Dr. Scott Caudle, Jim Henson, Harry "Fuzz" Mottern, Terry Emmert, Bobby Joe Davenport and Charlie Isakson. The family will receive friends from 1 to 3 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Friends may also call at the residence of a daughter and son-in-law, Angela and Larry Markland, 2516 Bob Little Road, Elizabethton.
