Lumsden Fully believing that Jesus Christ died for his sins, Kirk M. Lumsden was many, many years ago immersed into the body of Christ. In his own home on May 21, 2007, he became "absent in the body to be present with The Lord." Some of the areas in which he served his community were: The Community Chest Board, Boy's Club Director, President of Y's Mens Club, Chairman of the Board for the Elizabethton City Schools and Distinguished Service Award in Education for the State of Tennessee in 1955. He also served proudly in the U.S. Army. Mr. Lumsden served on the school board for 15 years. He was Chairman at the time that school integration became the law of the land. Both he and local newscaster Mack Morris felt a burden for the law to be obeyed without our community being torn by hate. Mr. Lumsden later reflected that he felt the Lord led him to the school board position for just that purpose. Mr. Lumsden was an active member of First Christian Church, having served as a teacher, Chairman of the Board and Elder. To Mr. Lumsden, his most important ministry was in his own home as a Godly husband and father. The Bible verse that he ever kept in front of him was Ecclesiastes 12:13 "Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man." Mr. Lumsden was a devoted employee, serving as a dry cleaner for Quick Cleaners.
