Wanda A. Lacey

Wanda Augusta Lacey, 87, 219 Smalling Road, Watauga died Friday, Jan. 
24, 2003, at Northside Hospital, Johnson City, following an extended 
illness. 
A native of Carter County, Mrs. Lacey was the daughter of the late Walter 
and Florence Croy Hughes. She was preceded in death by a brother, Ross 
Hughes. 
Mrs. Lacey had been a member of Fairview Baptist Church since 1933 and 
was a Sunday school teacher for 40 years. She was a retired nurse from 
Bowman's Clinic, serving from 1961-1985. 
Survivors include her husband of 66 years, Riley E. Lacey, of the home; 
one son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth and Patricia Lacey, Elizabethton; one 
granddaughter, Tiffany Lacey, Elizabethton; one grandson, Greg Lacey, 
Elizabethton; two adopted grandsons, Christopher Smart, Elizabethton, and 
Rex Ward, Kingsport; two sisters, Thelma Duncan, Tucson, Ariz. and Pansy 
Mae Sichler, Albuquerque N.M.; four brothers, Bob Hughes, Jack Hughes, 
Howard Hughes, and W.E. Hughes, all of Watauga; and several nieces and 
nephews.

LACEY -- Funeral services for Wanda Augusta Lacey, 87, 219 Smalling Road, 
Watauga, who died Friday, Jan. 24, will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 
26, at Fairview Baptist Church, with Dr. Kenneth Jordan officiating. Music 
will be under the direction of Sally Harris and Melodye Sparks. Interment 
will follow the funeral service at Monte Vista Burial Park, Johnson City. 
Active pallbearers will be Bill Carter, Bill Clawson, Charles Hughes, Doug 
Rasnick, Tim Rasnick and Gary Sparks. Honorary pallbearers will be Mike 
Lingerfelt, members of Fairview Baptist Church, and friends and neighbors. 
Mrs. Lacey will lie in-state between the hours of 2-3 p.m. at Fairview 
Baptist Church, Watauga, or friends may call at the residence, 219 Smalling 
Road, Watauga, any time. For those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers, 
donations may be made to Fairview Baptist Church, 585 Watauga Road, Watauga,
