CARTER COUNTY, TN - OBITUARIES - Viola Carnett LaFone, 9 Dec 2003 ----¤¤¤---- GRANITE FALLS, N.C. -- Mrs. Viola Carnett LaFone, 69, of Turner Road, Granite Falls, passed away Tuesday, December 9, 2003, at her residence. Mrs. LaFone was born in Carter County, Tenn., to the late Grant and Pearl Lyons Carnett. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Tommy LaFone; a son, Terry Mundy; a grandson, Dickie Williams; and a brother, Robert Carnett. Mrs. LaFone retired from Shuford Mills and was a member of Clover Baptist Church. Survivors include her companion, Frank Ball; two sons and daughters- in-law, Keith and Debbie LaFone, Granite Falls, and Eddie and Sandy Munday, Hickory; a daughter and son-in-law, Sonya and Harold Wakefield, Granite Falls; four brothers, J.C. Carnett, Elizabethton, Tenn., Kin Carnett, Hampton, Tenn., Gene Carnett, Granite Falls, and Roger Carnett, Hampton Tenn.; four sisters, Mandy Potter, Roan Mountain, Tenn., Ruth Harmon, Granite Falls, and Mary Selles and Joan Coffey, both of Rhodhiss; two granddaughters, Jessica Herring, Granite Falls, and Mandie Gilbert, Hickory; and a great-grandson, Curtis Gilbert, Hickory. Graveside services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday, December 11, in the Carnett Family Cemetery in Roan Mountain, Tenn., with the Rev. Michael Brashears officiating. Active pallbearers will be Mike Hollar, Donnie Mason, Kevin Norman, Allen Reid, Dedrick Reid and Dwight Selles. Honorary pallbearers will be J.L. "Bun" Potter and Ralph Potter. The family will receive friends from 6:30 until 8 p.m. Wednesday, December 10, at Granite Funeral Service and other times at the home.
