Laws Gladys Leonard Laws, 89, 103 Buffalo Valley Church Road, Johnson City, died Monday, December 4, 2000, at her residence following a lengthy illness. Mrs. Laws was a native of Carter County and had lived most of her life there. She was the daughter of the late J. Fred and Lillie Cox Leonard and was also preceded in death by her husband, Cecil Laws, in 1994, and by three sisters and five brothers. Mrs. Laws had worked in the First Aid Department of Bemberg Corporation and later as a Private Duty Nurse at Memorial Hospital in Johnson City. She was a member and past president of the Watauga Valley Art League and a charter member of the Buffalo Valley Christian Church. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Kenneth Brackett, Johnson City; two sons, Martin Laws, Limestone, and Philip Laws, Unicoi; a sister, Marie Leonard Lenden, Elizabethton; four grandchildren, Lisa Bennett, Pamela Holben, Karen Brackett and Kenneth Brackett, all of Johnson City; and three great-grandchildren, Chenoa Bennett, Rachael Bennett and Henry Holben, all of Johnson City. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral arrangements are incomplete. Morris-Baker Funeral Home, 2001 Oakland Avenue, Johnson City, (423) 282-1521, is in charge of arrangements.
