Laws Elmer Eugene "Gene" Laws, 70, 222 Dogwood Acres Road, Hampton, died Tuesday, January 23, 2001, at Johnson City Medical Center. Mr. Laws was a native of Carter County and a son of the late Henry and Maggie Keller Laws. He was also preceded in death by two sisters and three brothers. Mr. Laws was a graduate of Cloudland High School and was retired as a warehouseman from Lever Brothers, Whiting, Ind. He had lived in Indiana for a number of years before returning to Carter County seven years ago. He was a member and elder of Hampton Christian Church. Survivors include his wife, Mary Lou Smith Laws; two sons and daughters- in-law, Steven Eugene and Karen Laws, Daytona Beach, Fla., and Michael Edgar and Sue Laws, Hampton; a daughter and son-in-law, Patricia LouAnn and Donald McCune, Hammond, Ind.; two brothers, Millard Laws, Roan Mountain, and Delmar Laws, Elk Park, N.C.; and two sisters, Alberta Winters, Elk Park, N.C., and Vergie Smith, Roan Mountain. Seven grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins, four brothers-in-law and five sisters-in-law also survive. Memorial Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements. LAWS -- Funeral services for Elmer Eugene "Gene" Laws, 70, 222 Dogwood Acres Road, Hampton, who died Tuesday, January 23, 2001, will be conducted at 7 p.m. Thursday, January 25, at Hampton Christian Church with Mr. Dwayne Calhoun, Mr. Emery Cordell and Mr. Dennis Pierce officiating. The Laws Family will provide the music. Graveside services and interment will be at 10 a.m. Friday, January 26, at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the church at 6:50 p.m. Thursday and also at the funeral home at 9:30 a.m. Friday, will be Benny Pierce, Jamie Batchelder, Jeff Teague, Robert Siepha, Brad Laws and Eric Laws. Honorary pallbearers will be Jeff Dills, Jeff Petrich, Delmer Laws, Frank Smith and the men of Hampton Christian Church. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Hampton Christian Church. To those who prefer, memorials may be made to Hampton Christian Church, Building Fund, 810 Deerfield Lane, Hampton, Tenn. 37658. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 9:30 a.m. Friday to go to the cemetery. Memorial Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
