Lewis 3/21/00 Bessie Pearl Oliver Lewis, 82, 308 Watauga Avenue, Elizabethton, died Sunday, March 19, 2000, at Ivy Hall Nursing Home following an extended illness. Mrs. Lewis was a native of Carter County and the daughter of the late Jim and Janice Estep Oliver. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Barney Lewis. Mrs. Lewis was a member of the Dungan Chapel Baptist Church. Survivors include two daughters, Betty Blevins and Marie Bradley, both of Johnson City; a son and daughter-in-law, Terry and Debbie Lewis, Elizabethton; three sisters, Nora Wilkerson, Emma Richardson and Rose Benezue, all of Elizabethton; and four grandchildren, Chelsea and Jesse Lewis, Elizabethton, Tina Brown, Jonesborough, and Jerry Bowers, Highpoint, N.C. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Graveside services and interment will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 22, at Caldwell Springs Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Johnny Bowman, Doug Bernardi, David Sellers, Bill Mosley, Steve Fine, Steve Cornett, Larry Scalf and Carroll Mick. Honorary pallbearers will be Jack Pippin, Leroy Fleenor, Judy Deloach and Employees of Ivy Hall Nursing Home, 3rd Floor Nurses at Sycamore Shoals Hospital, members of First Church of the Nazarene of Elizabethton, Buford Neal, Sterlin Blevins, Charles Hicks, Dale Blevins, Woodrow Richardson, Roy Richardson, Floyd Richardson, Tommy Carrier, Danny Napier, members of Carter County Rescue Squad and the Rescue Squad personnel who transported Mrs. Lewis to and from Johnson City. Everyone will meet at the funeral home at 10 a.m. Wednesday to go in procession to the cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesday.
