CARTER COUNTY, TN - OBITUARIES - Melvin G. Lewis, Sr., 27 Feb 2003 ----¤¤¤---- Melvin G. Lewis, Sr. Melvin G. Lewis, Sr., 82, U.S. Highway 91, Elizabethton, died Thursday, February 27, 2003 at Johnson City Medical Center following an extended illness. A native of Carter County, he was the son of the late Pearl and Annie Lewis. He was a member of Union Baptist Church. Mr. Lewis was a retired truck driver for ET & WNC. He was a member of Dashiell Masonic Lodge No. 238 F & AM. He was a U.S. Army veteran having served in World War II. He was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters. Survivors include his wife, Goldie Carden Lewis, of the home; one daughter and son-in-law, Annetta and Harold Hall, Elizabethton; four sons and two daughters-in-law, Melvin Lewis Jr. and Betty Lewis, Elizabethton; Gary R. and Margie Lewis, Elizabethton; Ted Lewis, Elizabethton; Hubert Lewis, Elizabethton; 12 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; one brother, Raymond K. Lewis, Elizabethton, and one sister, Georgia Shoun, Elizabethton. Several nieces and nephews also survive. LEWIS -- The funeral service for Melvin G. Lewis, Sr., 82, who died Thursday, February 27, 2003 will be conducted at 8 p.m. Friday, February 28, 2003 at the Tetrick Funeral Home Riverside Chapel with Rev. Teddy Ray Lewis officiating. A Masonic service will be conducted by Dashiell Masonic Lodge No. 238 F &AM following the funeral service. The graveside service and interment will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 1 at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be grandsons, Rev. Teddy Ray Lewis, Keith Lewis, Chris Estep, Gary Lewis, Larry Lewis, and Jeffery "Bo" Lewis. Those who plan to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the funeral home at 9:15 a.m. Saturday to go in procession to the cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, February 28, 2003 at Tetrick Funeral Home Riverside Chapel.
