CARTER COUNTY, TN - OBITUARIES - Charles "Ray" Lewis, 3 Dec 2003 ----¤¤¤---- Charles "Ray" Lewis, age 80, 334 Whaleytown Road, Butler, died Wednesday, December 3, 2003, at James H. Quillen V.A. Medical Center Hospital, Mountain Home, following a brief illness. A native of Carter County, he was the son of the late William and Mae Walsh Lewis. He was a member of Elizabethton Church of Christ and was a retired employee of North American Rayon Corporation after 40 years of service. He was a U.S. Army veteran having served during World War II and was a member of The Diehard Company, had served in five major battles and was awarded a purple heart. He was preceded in death by a brother, Carl Lewis. Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Mattie Lambert Lewis, of the home; one daughter and son-in-law, Devonia Lewis McKeehan and Bobby McKeehan, Elizabethton; one brother, Bill Lewis, Greeneville; three sisters, Frances Reece, Butler, Shirley Caruso, Johnson City, and Betty Stout, Akron, Ohio; two grandchildren, Sgt. 1st Class, Randy McKeehan, Sr., Newport, and Lisa McKeehan Young, Johnson City; four great-grandchildren, Curtis Bradley McKeehan, Elizabethton; Randy Ray McKeehan, Jr., Gray; Chase Alan Young, Johnson City, and Christopher Robert Young, Johnson City. Several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews also survive. The funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, December 7, 2003, at Tetrick Funeral Home, Riverside Chapel, with Mr. Eddy Craft and Mr. Ed DeVault, ministers officiating. Music will be under the direction of Elizabethton Church of Christ Singers. Interment will follow at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Military honors to be accorded by Capt. Lynn H. Folsom V.F.W. Post #2166. Active pallbearers will be Johnny Campbell, Burl Campbell, Dean Lunceford, Bob Campbell, Donnie Harmon, Jeff Vines, Curtis Bradley McKeehan and Terry Reece. Honorary pallbearers will be members of Elizabethton Church of Christ. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Saturday, December 6, at Tetrick Funeral Home, Riverside Chapel, or friends may call the residence 334 Whaleytown Road, Butler any time.
