Lovelace John Winfield Lovelace, 84, 312 Kendrick Avenue, Elizabethton, formerly of Treadway Street, died Tuesday, August 15, 2000, at Pine Ridge Care Center after a brief illness. Mr. Lovelace was a native of Carter County and a son of the late Thomas and Carrie Russell Lovelace. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Effie Timbs Lovelace, December 14, 1989, three brothers, Harold, Orden and Noah Lovelace, and a sister, Pearl Lovelace. Mr. Lovelace was a retired employee of North American Rayon Corporation and a U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II. He was a member of the Doe River Baptist Church. Survivors include three daughters, Jean Bautista and Sonia Walker, both of Elizabethton, and Elizabeth Kulka, Chesterfield, Mich.; two sons, Johnny Ray Lovelace and Jacky Glenn Lovelace, both of Elizabethton; a sister, Pauline Lewis, Deltona, Fla.; and five brothers, Allen and Ed Lovelace, both of Elizabethton, Thomas Lovelace, Hampton, Glen Lovelace, Detroit, Mich., and Clinton Lovelace, Johnson City. Eleven grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive. Memorial Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements. LOVELACE -- Funeral services for John Winfield Lovelace, 84, 312 Kendrick Avenue, Elizabethton, formerly of Treadway Street, who died Tuesday, August 15, 2000, will be conducted at 8 p.m. Thursday, August 17, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with Rev. Fred Wade and Rev. Murray Jackson officiating. Mrs. Mary Roberts will provide the music. Graveside services and interment will be at 11 a.m. Friday, August 18, at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Military Graveside Honors will be conducted by the Captain Lynn H. Folsom V.F.W. Post #2166. Active pallbearers will be grandsons and nephews. Honorary pallbearers will be the Employees of Pine Ridge Care Center, Dr. Stephen May and Steve Hatley. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Friends may also call at the residence of a daughter, Sonia Walker, 175 River Road, Elizabethton. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 10:30 a.m. Friday to go to the cemetery. Memorial Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
