Lyons 11/08/99 Edward Wiley Lyons, 87, formerly of 1600 Dixon Street, Elizabethton, died Friday, November 5, 1999, at Ivy Hall Nursing Home following an extended illness. Mr. Lyons was born April 11, 1912, in Old Fish Springs, the son of the late Jerry Turner and Mary Abby Mathis Lyons. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Sarah Lyons Jennings, and a brother, Guy Lyons. Mr. Lyons joned the Navy during World War II and served in the Pacific aboard the destroyer, U.S.S. Haynesworth. He also served with the National Guard at Fort Devens, Mass., during the Korean Conflict. He was a life member of the Captain Lynn H. Folsom V.F.W. Post #2166 where he served as a member of the burial detail for over 50 years. He retired after 50 years of service from North American Rayon Corporation. Survivors include his wife, Elma Knight Lyons, of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Mary "Bobbie" and Walter Brown and Vickie and Chester Little, all of Elizabethton; and a son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Donna Lyons, Huber Heights, Ohio. LYONS -- Funeral services for Edward Wiley Lyons, 87, formerly of 1600 Dixon Street, Elizabethton, who died Friday, will be conducted at 8 p.m. Sunday at Tetrick Funeral Home, Riverside Chapel, with Mark Street and Greg Key, ministers, officiating. Music will be under the direction of Mike Fleenor. Graveside services and interment will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Happy Valley Memorial Park with military honors to be accorded by the Captain Lynn H. Folsom V.F.W. Post #2166. Active pallbearers will be David Lyons, Spencer Davis, Kevin Little, Robert Smith, Robert Stennett and Troy Wagner. Honorary pallbearers will be Howard Simerly, Jerry Simerly, Murrell Wagner, Howard Jewett, Eston Shaffer, members of the Honor Guard of V.F.W. Post #2166 and the staff and employees of Ivy Hall Nursing Home. Everyone will meet at the funeral home at 9:15 a.m. Monday to go in procession to the cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Friends may also call at the residence any time.
