Lyons 3/8/00 Elmer Roy Lyons, 78, 1041 Dry Creek Road, Elizabethton, died Monday, March 6, 2000, at the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center after a lengthy illness. Mr. Lyons was a native of Carter County and a son of the late Thomas and Bessie Grindstaff Lyons. He was also preceded in death by a sister and three brothers. Mr. Lyons was a retired auto mechanic and a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II. He was of the Baptist Faith. Survivors include his wife, Anna Mae Vines Lyons; two sons, Gary Lyons and Terry Lyons, both of Johnson City; and a brother, Paul Lyons, Elizabethton. Three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren also survive. Memorial Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements. LYONS -- Funeral services for Elmer Roy Lyons, 78, 1041 Dry Creek Road, Elizabethton, who died Monday, March 6, 2000, will be conducted at 8 p.m. Thursday, March 9, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with Rev. Orville Stokes officiating. Entombment will be at Roselawn Memory Gardens at 11 a.m. Friday, March 10. Active pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the cemetery at 10:50 a.m. Friday, will be Scott Lyons, Robbie Lyons, Roy Vines, Mike Brumitt, Scott Hixon and Keith Lyons. Honorary pallbearers will be David Castell and Gordon Stepp. The family would like to express a "Special Thank You" to the Doctors, Nurses and Staff of the SICU of James H. Quillen VA Medical Center. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Friends may also call at the residence. Family and friends will assemble at the cemetery at 10:50 a.m. Friday.
