Lyons Denton E. Lyons, 82, formerly of George Bowers Road, Elizabethton, died Sunday, May 26, 2002, at Pine Ridge Care Center following a brief illness. Mr. Lyons was a native of Carter County and the son of the late Elbert and Martha Alice Shipley Lyons. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Bonnie Retha Bowers Lyons, and a granddaughter, Ellen Lyons, in 1977. Mr. Lyons attended Community Fellowship Church, Watauga, and was a retired employee of North American Rayon Corporation. Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Howell Edward and Brookie Lyons, Rockwood, Tenn., and Ronnie Wayne and Edna Lyons, Milano, Texas; three daughters and sons-in-law, Charlotte L. and John Browder Jr., Elizabethton, Carol and Terry Walker, Rockdale, Texas, and Mary Alice and Keith Moody, Kingsport; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a sister, Axie Hicks, Johnson City. Lyons, 82, formerly of George Bowers Road, Elizabethton, who died Sunday, May 26, 2002, will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 29, in the Chapel of Peace of Tetrick Funeral Home with the Rev. Ken Hauser and the Rev. Kyle Falin officiating. Music will be under the direction of Rick Sweeney. Graveside services and interment will follow the funeral service at Combs Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be John Browder III, Hal Lyons Jr., Randal Vance, Roger Clemons, Freddie Gouge and Maxwell Collins. Honorary pallbearers will be Larry Kiser, Raymond Perkinson, Albert Williams, Eugene Davis and Thorton Daniels. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
