Markland Markland, Betty Jane, of Flushing, Mich., age 72, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, Oct. 14, 2006, at Avalon Hospice. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 17, 2006, at Calvary Christian Church, 7315 Corunna Road, Swartz Creek. Pastor Michael Haines will officiate. Burial will follow at Flushing Cemetery. Visitation was from 1-4 p.m. and from 6-9 p.m. Monday at Rossell Funeral Home and from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the church on Tuesday. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to Calvary Christian Church. Betty was born in Elizabethton, Tenn., on June 29, 1934, the daughter of Charles and Ella (Aldrich) Colbaugh. She married Clyde Howard Markland on June 28, 1954 in South Carolina. Betty was a member of Calvary Christian Church, where she served in many capacities. She was a former member of First Christian Church of Flushing. Betty graduated from Elizabethton High School in Tennessee in 1952. Betty retired from F.W. Woolworth after 21 years of service. She was a Girl Scout leader, Cub Scout leader and Sunday school teacher. Betty was an avid gardener. She was also a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Surviving are her husband, Clyde Howard Markland of Flushing; three children, Debra Markland of New Jersey, Lynn Markland of Durand, and Lisa Markland of New Jersey; two granddaughters, Holly George of Flushing and Jayne Short of Virginia; two great-granddaughters, Sunny George of Flushing and Hailey Smith of Virginia; a sister, Ella Jo Medearis of Tennessee; and many nieces and nephews.
